Basically, Kerala dishes will be very tasty and flavorful. They prepare every dish using coconut oil. It gives the dish rich aroma and taste. They also use coconut milk for most of the dishes. Today, I prepared Malabar style fish curry using mackerel fish(aiyla). It is prepared with coconut milk and coconut oil. The taste is mind blowing. We got very nice aroma and taste. It gives our tongue a great treat. In this curry, I added tamarind paste. We can add raw mango also. If we add raw mango, the curry will be more tastier. I used mackerel fish in this curry. We can use sardine(mathi) fish also. Mackerel, Sardine fishes are very suitable for this Malabar curry. The preparation also so simple. Let us see, how to prepare the tasty traditional Kerala Malabar fish curry.
Keep ready with your grinding ingredients. Soak tamarind in warm water. take 1 bowl full of thick coconut milk. Grind coarsely the grinding ingredients.In a fish curry kadai, add coarsely grind masala, turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and salt.Squeeze tamarind extract and add it into the masala. Add 2 tsp of coconut oil and keep it in the medium flame.When the curry start to boiling, add clean wash the fish pieces. We can add whole fish or we can cut into two pieces.Allow it to cook till the raw smell goes and fish fully cooked. Add thick coconut milk and make simmer flame. After adding coconut milk, no need to cook long time. If we want,we can add tempering with mustard seeds.Within 2-3 minutes we can switch off the flame, add 2 tsp of coconut on the top and transfer to the serving dish. Garnish with fresh curry leaves and serve hot with hot rice.
