Akki Roti / Rice flour Roti

Rice flour roti is one the famous traditional recipe of Karnataka. In Kannada, rice is known as akki, so this roti is called as Akki Roti. My mother used to prepare in my childhood days. I like very much. When I came to Bangalore only, I came to know, this is the Karnataka’s traditional breakfast recipe. I’m mixing chopped onion, coriander leaves, coconut pieces and grated carrots. We can also add soaked channa dal or roasted gram dhal. This roti is very much suitable with coconut chutney. Or we can have only with sugar. My hubby likes this roti very much. Usually in our homes, idly, dosa, chappathy, poori these are all the regular or normal breakfast recipes. Weekly once or at least monthly once, if we prepare like this kind of different dishes, all the family members will be very happy. Let us prepare the tasty and healthy breakfast recipe Akki Roti.

Basic Information:

Preparation time       :  10 Mins

Cooking time              :  5 Mins

Serve for                      :  4 Persons

Ingredients :

Rice flour                 :  2 Cups

Onion                       :  1 No

Coconut pieces       :  2 Tsp

Coriander leaves   :  Few

Carrots                    :  1 No

Salt                           :  To taste

Oil                             :  2 Tsp per pc

Method:

In a mixing bowl, take 2 cups of rice flour.Finely chop onion, coconut, coriander leaves and grate carrots and add with the rice flour.Mix with the water and required salt as soft dough.Make lemon sized ball in the dough and place it in the white cloth which spreads in the back side of a plate. Press the ball using your fingers as roti shape.Transfer the roti from the cloth to your hand. Heat a dosa thava, place the pressed roti and spread 1 tsp of oil over the roti.After 2-3 minutes of cooking, turn the roti and cook for another 3 minutes.Transfer the cooked roti to the serving plate and serve with coconut chutney.Try this traditional Karnataka breakfast recipe and please post your valuable comments.
