Diwali snack – Thattai murukku \ Nippattu

For Diwali, we will make a lot of snack items. Thattai muruku or Flat muruku is one of the famous snack item in South India. It is very tasty and crispy snack which can be prepare very easily. This tasty snack will be prepared for gokulashtami also. This is one of the traditional Tamil Nadu snack recipe. This is prepared with rice flour, urad dal flour with other interesting ingredients. We can also add fried gram dal ( Pottukadala) powder also. I am adding only rice flour and 1 teaspoon of urad dal flour. If we add too much of urad dal flour means, thattai will be gone very hard. Try this yummy spicy snack and enjoy the light festival of Diwali.

Basic information :
Preparation time : 15 Mins
Cooking time : 3 Mins
Preserve for : 1 Month
Ingredients :
Rice flour : 1 Cup
Urad dal : 2 Tsp
Chana dal : 2 Tsp
Garlic : 2 Cloves
Cumin seeds : 1 Tsp
Salt : 1 Tsp
Chilly powder : 1/2 Tsp
Oil : For fry
Method:
Soak chana dal for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, drain water and keep it aside.
Dry roast the urad dal and make powder after getting cool.
Mix rice flour, urad dal flour, Crushed garlic and cumin seeds, chilly powder, soaked chana dal and salt. Add little water and mix well as smooth dough.
Make equal lemon size balls in the dough.
Flatten the balls by pressing with flat bottom bowl or with your hand in a oil greased polythene paper. Press it till it becomes thin.
Heat oil in a pan, deep fry the flat dough till it turns golden brown and crispy.
After fried well, transfer to the air tight container after getting cool in room temperature or serve it hot.
