Banana stem soup .. Vazhaithandu soup… When we talking about banana, each and every part of banana tree is very useful and we can make many types of dishes using banana flower, raw banana, banana stem and we can use banana leaves for serving food. Serving food in banana leaves is an important tradition in Tamil Nadu. Vazhithandu or banana stem is fully loaded with fiber and it is close friend of kidney. It is having a lot of health benefits. Mainly helping in cure all kidney diseases, especially for kidney stones. Very helpful to flesh out all the toxins from our body, so that it helps to reduce our body weight by removing fat. Most of the people doesn’t like to add banana stem in their diet. But if we make this kind of soup, every one will like this soup and they can’t even know this soup is made with banana stem. Take out the outer part of the vazhaithandu and peel off.Cut the thandu like round discs and cut it in normal sized cubes. For preparing thandu poriyal, we need to finely chop the vazhaithandu. But in this dish we are going to grind the boiled stem. So we are cutting medium sized cubes.
In a kadai or bowl, boil 3-4 glasses of water and add cubed stem and allow it to boil for 10 minutes.After 10 minutes of boiling, switch off the flame and grind it with the water after coming to room temperature.Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.After the seeds splutter, add curry leaves and green chilies.Add ground stem juice.Now, we are adding turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt and make it boil for 3 minutes.Strain the soup after 3 minutes of boiling. By pressing the boiled stem extract the extra soup.Again keep the soup in low flame, and boil for 2 minutes. After that we are adding 2 ladle of curd or fresh cream.I added curd. slice the garlic and do fry the garlic and add it into the soup and garnish with coriander leaves and serve it.Try this healthy soup and make your kidney healthy.
